Mortiz enjoyed working out but couldn’t really get into a steady routine. Whenever stress crept in, fitness often fell by the wayside. As for his diet? He loved to eat. This combination led to weight gain and a drop in confidence.
That’s when he turned to Freeletics for guidance on nutrition and developing a routine to become his best, strongest self – and the results were more than he ever imagined. This is his journey:
“For me, fitness had always been a way to find balance. However, when it came to my diet, I never really gave it much thought. I just ate what I liked. My lifestyle included going to bed late – I could never go to bed before 11 pm and I was struggling to fall asleep earlier.
On top of that, during periods of heavy workload and high stress, I struggled to maintain a regular gym routine.”
Making a change
“At the start of the Transformation Challenge, my goal was to achieve a better physical form (mostly lose some belly fat) and strengthen my mindset. This included going to the gym even during stressful times without having to force myself.
I also wanted to learn more about nutrition and gain a deeper understanding of it. I wanted to work out with professional guidance to get a better technique. And finally, I wanted to strengthen my mindset and push myself outside my comfort zone.
To be honest, I was a little bit scared about the dietary changes because I loved to eat.”
Developing discipline
“About halfway into starting the challenge, I enjoyed doing my workouts and noticed that my sleep had improved. I became even more aware of how much regular exercise helps me manage my sleep.
While my relationship with fitness hadn’t changed much, and sometimes the training itself wasn’t that much fun (especially in the early morning), I loved the feeling of accomplishment afterward.
The biggest change I saw was reaching a new level of discipline that I never had before. I felt calmer, more balanced, and also happier than I was before the challenge.
Physically, my body changed, and that was a cool side effect of sticking to my diet. I was really surprised at how much fat I lost in just two months, and I was very proud of that.
People around me noticed the changes, too. I got compliments on my progress, which made me happy.”
Building on to the next phase
“I was so excited to keep going! I received a new diet plan with more food to help me build muscles but in a lean way. The food itself wasn’t a struggle anymore since I was used to it.
I even came up with new ideas on combining the ingredients so it wouldn’t be boring. It really started to feel more like a new lifestyle rather than a challenge."
Gaining a new perspective
“My body changed a lot throughout the Transformation Challenge, but my mindset has been the biggest transformation. I am way more disciplined, and my diet is more balanced.
Even in stressful situations, I’m more mindful about food. Eight weeks after the halfway point, I am seeing further progress with my body.
I never thought that I’d become a person who wakes up and does a workout so early, but Freeletics has shown me otherwise. I'm more mindful about my diet and try to stick to my latest meal plan but with more freedom. If I want to eat pizza, then I eat pizza.
I’m also sleeping better than before, which correlates with my stress level. And since I’ve been working out more regularly, I sleep better because it helps release all the tension if I move my body.”
Looking forward
“I think I nailed my goal, and I want to continue this way! I’m feeling more balanced and confident than ever. Starting out, I didn't expect the change in my mindset to be this big. It’s really changed how I see myself.
I even got a new job in the consulting industry in Zurich. The job interview took place just 1-2 weeks before the Transformation Challenge was about to end. I feel that my newfound self-confidence played a big part in this job offer.
As I move on from this challenge, I plan to stay mindful about what I eat while still allowing myself to enjoy some unhealthy food if I am really craving it (p.s. it's typically pizza).”
My advice: Get support and just do it!
“Two points here:
- Get someone who has experience in this field and let them coach you (yes, you must obey their rules!).
- Just do it. There will never be the perfect time & place for this or a similar challenge.”
