Before the #My12WeeksTransformation challenge, Luis was overweight, unfit and unhappy. His health had been derailed by a lifestyle of poor eating habits and a lack of exercise. Then he came across the Freeletics challenge and it proved to be the spark Luis needed to change his life for the better. Here is his #My12WeeksTransformation story.
My name is Luis Angel, I’m 24 years old and I’m from Pennsylvania in the US. Before I started using Freeletics, I was unhealthy and obese; I weighed 118kg and led a very sedentary life. I used to have a problem with food which meant that I ate excessively even when I wasn’t hungry. I was also very unfit; I couldn’t do a single Pushup and 10 Burpees took me an eternity, and even then my technique was poor. As a teenager, I’d played volleyball, but I was still overweight and last year I tried CrossFit, but I didn’t have the time or money to keep it up.
I felt like I’d tried everything to improve my health and physical appearance; I’d tried a keto diet, fasting, hiring a personal trainer and spending hours at the gym, but nothing had ever really worked for me. My self esteem was at an all-time low and my health couldn’t get much worse, so the Freeletics #My12WeeksTransformation challenge came at just the right time.
They say that the hardest part is starting and I definitely found that to be true. The first two weeks were the most difficult as I felt that I wasn’t progressing or seeing any results. Every time something challenged me, I wanted to quit, but I’m so glad I didn’t.
Freeletics made me put my excuses aside and actually put in the effort to work for my goals. As I didn’t need gym equipment or weights, I didn’t have an excuse not to train. I went from hating Burpees with a passion to actually enjoying them in a strange way. I also started to be mindful of my nutrition for the first time and began to eat a balanced diet with more vegetables and far less meat than I’d been used to.
After 12 weeks, I’ve lost 18.5kg and I can now do workouts that I never thought I could do. Whereas before, I struggled to do even the simplest exercises, I can now do Clapping Pushups, Spiderman Pushups and 150 Burpees, all with correct technique.
Alongside the physical transformation, I also definitely went through a mental transformation. Freeletics encouraged me to set my excuses aside and focus on my goals. During Hell Week, I was able to put all of the mental strength I’d developed to the test and smash all of my PB’s; I couldn’t have imagined doing this at the start.
This is by no means the end of my journey with Freeletics; I’ve reached one goal, but there’s more ahead. I want to continue losing weight, building muscle and becoming a better version of myself. Freeletics didn’t just get me to work out, it changed my entire lifestyle and improved my health more than I could have imagined. It helped me to believe that nothing is impossible and it helped me to discover and push beyond my physical and mental limits. My journey with Freeletics has been amazing and I can’t wait for my next challenge.
