When do you reach the point of no return? Now? Next year? Or when doctors say your weight will kill you? Benjamin reached this point 10 years ago, when doctors told him he had only 5 years to live. As someone who was never really active, Benjamin started using Freeletics to totally transform not only his body, but also his mind. Benjamin is a true Free Athlete, who continuously pushes himself to the limits and always seeks out new fitness challenges.
10 years ago, doctors told me I had five years to live. I weighed 210kg at the time. That’s when I realised that I couldn’t leave my children without a father! I underwent surgery to get a gastric band and a bypass, and as a result I did lose weight, but I was gaining it back again all the time. One day, my nephew showed me Heiko’s Freeletics transformation video on YouTube, telling me that I could do it too. Back then I weighed 145kg – I promised him I would give it a try.
After one year and thousands of burpees, I weighed just 85kg and I was in the best shape of my life. My life changed completely – I had surgery to remove the excess skin on my chest and arms after losing 125kg, and now I do challenge after challenge like the Spartan Race Trifecta and soon, even my first marathon. It’s like my own revenge on life. Having not been being sporty at all my entire life, who would have thought one day I would have the nickname “coach”… I am even thinking of changing my career!
Now it’s your turn. Don’t just sit around and let your fitness goals pass you by. You may not be obese, but you do have a decision to make. Take control of your situation, just like Benjamin did. Remember: Fitness is not a destination, it’s a way of life.
