Alexandra used to love working out, but as life evolved, her priorities shifted, and her fitness fell to the wayside. The Freeletics Transformation Challenge provided Alexandra with the opportunity to finally put herself first – to prioritize her health, gain some confidence, and come back even stronger. Here’s her story:
“I used to like fitness before I started working full-time and had two kids. This made it difficult, and I knew I needed an extra push.
I also needed to improve my overall lifestyle. My diet consisted of too many carbohydrates and not enough protein. When it came to sleep, my nights were often interrupted by the kids. My stress was pretty manageable, but there were times I’d feel quite stressed out.”
Finding myself again
“For the Transformation Challenge, my goal was to lose weight and to try and get back to my former fitness level — maybe even surpass it.
Beyond fitting into my pre-pregnancies-jeans, I also wanted to improve my fitness and exercise skills overall. I wanted to feel confident, start exercising regularly, and hopefully drop my habit of eating too many sweets.
But the biggest shift I wanted to see overall was better time management to fit exercise into my daily life.
I was excited to start the challenge and even more excited about not having to think about what to eat (I really hate that!).”
When fitness becomes self-care
“At not even the halfway point, I still felt motivated and confident that I would remain motivated throughout the challenge. I had gotten stronger and started to see changes in my shape.
And I really started to enjoy working out before my day started and it just felt good. In the morning, I didn’t have to think about it, I just did it.
Most importantly, it felt great to do something just for myself! With two little kids at home (ages 1 and 3), it was my luxurious self-care time.”
Back on track
“Now that the challenge is over, I finally feel like I’m back on track. Working out feels like it‘s a habit now. I am happy to have my pre-pregnancy body back and enjoy trying out and improving new exercises!
One unexpected benefit of the challenge has been that my kids sometimes join in for some exercises and that has been really fun to see!
The only thing I would like to change in the habits I have developed from the challenge is to slowly bring my calories to a maintaining level and continue exercising. I plan to follow the prescribed diet still, but to be honest, it seems too strict for me.
Overall, I achieved the goal that I set out to accomplish and I‘m proud of myself that I kept going.”
My advice: 100% do it!
“I struggled with the nutrition aspect, and if I could go back, I would try eating slightly more because, at some points, it felt like my body switched to some sort of emergency state.
I think something like the 80/20 approach would have made it more sustainable for me. Of course that doesn’t mean going completely overboard, but I think it would’ve been more motivating to stick to the diet if it was more flexible.
For the exercise and habit-building aspect, I would 100% recommend doing it!”
